Hello All,
The club meeting held on 31 May 2008 at Cache Creek Casino
the members decided to take a vote to close the club down because of lack of participation and the dwindling of club membership.
Members present:
Deno and Rainey
James and Joan
Claudell
Pat
Members missng:
Reggie and Kay
Earnie and Pearl (Voted by proxy)
Kathy
Ty
Jeff

So as of 1 June 2008 the club meetings/events are canceled.
***********************************************************

The meeting held in Vallejo at the home of Pearl and Earnie was an exceptional one.

First off, in hindsight that meeting should have been dedicated to our Beloved Martha Burns who passed away in February after a courageous battle with diabetes complications. She will always be remembered as a wonderful person and member.
At the closing of the meeting Reggie led the members in giving recognition and a moment of silence to Martha.

Second. Our club donation for 2006 was awarded to Ms Tiffany Akins.

Ms Akins gave a very touching presentation on her struggle of being a caregiver to her grandmother who has multiple illnesses, her limited social life (running track as an outlet), the hardship of her personal struggle with the relationship with her mother who comes and goes in her life.

At 19 yrs old in her second year at SFSU at present her GP is 3.0 do to a demanding home life she has, but it has been higher and she vows to bring her GP to a higher level.

Members, Reggie, James and Jeff stepped forward and said they will do research on their sources and see what channels are open for donations from organizations and companies in the San Jose area to help Ms Akins in the future.

**We have a donation for Ms Akins coming from an ex-club member as well.

At our next meeting I would like to make a motion that if Ms Akins does well this coming school year, that she becomes ONE of our club's "poster children". I'm sure we all would like to follow her through her education and see her reach her goals in life.

Third. Our club members presented James Williams (Joan) with a engraved plaque for his dedicated serves as president for 2006. James was surprised and touched as was his lovely wife Joan.

Forth. We got commitment from members to ride in the Benicia Mardi Gras Parade in April.
We committed to purchasing beads and possible personalized du blooms for throws through a connection James Williams has.

**Forgot to mention that members can dress in costumes and decorate their cars if they want to. Just keep safety in mind for the driver i.e. face mask should not be worn by driver's, nothing on cars that will block the view of the driver

As always the hostess and host Pearl and Earnie did an outstanding job in the preparation of food and desert.

I'll be posting the pictures taking at this meeting showing the recipients of the donation and award.

Until then we meet again remember to always "RIDE with PRIDE" and spread the good news about Guys and Dolls.

Hello Guys and Dolls,
I want to thank everyone who came out to the meeting in the rainy weather to attend this important annual dinner/business meeting.
I'm happy to say that our club meeting held at the Claim Jumper in Concord, CA was a very successful one.The food was very delicious and lots of it, the only drawback was the parking. I think it was a blessing that it rained and we got to drive our daily drivers to the meeting. I wouldn't have felt very comfortable parking my Corvette near the restaurant because of the congested parking area.
This something to keep in mind if we chose to go there next year for our annual dinner meeting.
The hi-lites of the meeting will be covered in the minutes being sent out by the club secretary (Kathy).
But to hit on a few of the subjects covered is as follows:
The officers for 2007 were installed.
Deno-President
Reggie- Vice President
Kathy- Secretary
Pat- Treasurer
Kay- Sgt-at-Arms.
It was amended into the club's By-Laws that starting in 2007 the club officers will take office for two years.
All the new officers excepted this Lent of term as the first E-board members to do so.

Also an amendments to the By-laws is as follows:
1. Any E-board member who misses two meetings will be re-called and that position will be filled by a club member who volunteers for the position.

2. The club will no longer pay the annual WSCC dues for those members who take a leave of absence.

3. The new shirts that were introduced by Reggie and Kay Boggs are excepted and members may wear different colors of their choice as long as the shirt has the club logo on it.

4. The members voted in that the club will pay 50% for the purchase of ONE club shirt annually. Any specialty shirts i.e. club runs, different style shirts for the women in the club and event shirts members will have to pay the full price of that shirt.

Members picked the colors they liked and placed an order through Kay and Reggie with the amount they owe to follow later.

We lost a set of members which is very understandable due to illness in the family.
We whole heartily wish them well and a speed recover to full health by the grace of God.

Before the closing of the meeting the calendar for club meeting was set.

March's(24th) meeting will be held in Vallejo and hosted by Pearl and Earnie.

May's(19) meeting held in wine country hosted by Deno,Rainey and Pat. (This is the outdoor meeting held at Sattui's winery and member's select and pay for their deli style meals and eat outdoors)

July's(28th) Location TBA hosted by Kay and Reggie.

Sept.(22nd) Held in San Jose hosted my Joan and James.

Nov.(17) Location TBA hosted by Kathy (This is our meeting to collect donations for the Thanksgiving Day food donation).

Again, thank each and everyone of you for coming out to the meeting and hopefully we will see you and some new faces at the next meeting.
There will be some pictures posted in a LINK of members who were at the meeting.
Remember:

NEWSLETTER as of ................08/12/06......
Hello Guys and Dolls,
On 8/09/06 e-mail was sent out by Joan Williams announcing the arrival of the bus trip tickets and I forwarded it to as many people (club members and non-club members) I had in my e-mail address book. This would be a good idea for all the members to do this in order to generate ticket sales.
Also we have 600 raffle tickets in also. Each member will be responsible to sell 50 raffle tickets.
We have 60 bus tickets each member will be responsible to sell 5 bus tickets.
The money for the bus trip has to be in to Pearl no later than August 28, 2006

Date for drawing the winning tickets for the raffle is November 18, 2006

The raffle is for three prizes Third prize is $25.00 cash, Second prize is a $75.00 food certificate at Safe Way and First prize is a $100.00 Chevron gas card.

This morning I went up to Roseville to MSI (the place where I had the work done on my engine). Every Saturday they have open house with free coffee and donuts. It's all informal, a bunch of guys and women setting or looking at the Corvettes that come up..today there must have been 15 to 25 Corvettes there. I sold $29.00 of our raffle tickets.
I plan to go back up the weekend of 19 Aug to see if I can sell more tickets.

Terry and Mark invited G&D to come up anytime on a Saturday. Terry also suggested that MSI can be a meeting place for G&D if we ever want to go to the Thunder Valley Casino..it's about 15 miles from the MSI location.

So get ready to sell raffle tickets..e-mail me if you want your allotted tickets to be mailed to you or wait until our meeting in September to get your's. Remember the drawing is on 18 November 2006, so the sooner you receive your tickets the sooner they will all be SOLD!
If they are a big seller we may order more.
All money gained from these two events will be added to money the club already has and will go to out donations during the holidays.

Next we need recruitment of possible new members. We all know at some point we meet people with Corvettes..and they seem interested but nothing becomes of them coming out to a meeting to see what Guys and Dolls is about.
Not sure why this happens maybe it's the nature of people to appear interested when they really are not.
But we can't give up, we have to continue to recruit good people to our club. Preferably Corvette enthusiast individuals who want to get out and enjoy the weather and their pride and joy.

This year we had to give away our spot at the Vallejo Jazz Festival because of lack of interest of members wanting to attend. I'm hoping this won't happen with other upcoming events that we have participated in with PRIDE. I for one do not want this club to fail we are at our third year and some indications are showing no interest in the club and events. This could be the death of a club.

So it is all of our duty to see what we can do to spark interest in the club.
Until we all meet again stay safe and Ride with PRIDE.

Hello Guys and Dolls,
I'm not sure the members are aware of the passing of club members relatives in the last 2 months. There was the passing of Rainey's aunt, passing of Pat's aunt, passing of Pearl's sister and most recent the passing of Rev Jeff Moore's sister.
Let us take time to mention them in our daily prayers and may the heart have less pain of their passing in the days to come.

I would like all of you to know Rainey and I had a wonderful cross country trip (not in the Corvette sad to say)
It was an uneventful journey from the Bay Area to as far away as Uniontown, PA.
Our round trip was a little over 11,000 miles in six weeks.
We visited family and friends who we hadn't seen in some time.
We were in Washington, DC for Memorial Day weekend visiting with Rainey's aunt and family...what a sight to see t the Viet Nam Memorial Wall. There were hundreds of motorcycles from across the country coming to honor these vets.
We made a stop (2) in Bowling Green, KY to visit the Corvette/Cadillac plant, yes the two seater sports car Cadillac is built right beside the Cadillac. But there was no tour going on for it.
The Corvette plant and the National Corvette Museum is a thing of interest for any Corvette enthusiast to see.
Check on the LINK at the bottom of any page to see the picture taken at the NCM.

We are glad to be back home and very thankful and blessed to have been able to do this USA Tour.
Now I'm ready for some Summer fun and car shows.
So lets get out there and "Ride With Pride"
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
First let me give thanks to these members for coming out to support Guys and Dolls.

The weather was outstanding in Alameda..a perfect day for a Corvette show.

Dana Curry was the first to come out, then Tye and Vickie came out later.

Want to give thanks to Pancho for come with me and help with the clean up of my car.

Now the news. We met two people who seem genially interested. A woman name Renee she has a C5 and won a plaque at today's show. The other is Willie from Hercules he has a 91 ZR 1 with 600+ HP. Gave them club information, web site address.

I'll be setting up the pictures of today show...some very nice cars.

Now for me. In the Modified field there were 16 winners and I came out #8 all in the name of Guys and Dolls.

Thank all those who came out in support..

Hello Guys and Dolls,
Thanks to the members that came out to the Benicia Gold&Gumbo Mardi Gras Parade that took place in Benicia, CA on April 29, 2006.
You made it happen for the club. We had nine Corvettes in the parade and our support truck.
President James Williams had people from New Orleans to come out and take in the California style Mardi Gras and the report is that they felt really good about being able to have a feeling from home to lift their spirits. Like to give thanks to the people from New Orleans for donating to Guys and Dolls the real deal beads from New Orleans for throws to the crowd...it gave us the best throwing krewe out there in the parade.
See picture taken by going to the bottom of newsletter and click on LINK. Go to the LINK named Benicia Gold&Gumbo Mardi Gras 4/29/06.
Enjoy

All of us that made the San Simeon run this past weekend had a safe ride down with 229 Corvettes. We all had a wonderful time...
We have a potential new member wanting to come aboard, with this run he has ONE event under his belt with ONE more to go before being brought before the club to be voted in.

I want to thank Earnie and Pearl for going ahead of us and securing a spot for us in the pool area by hanging our banner.
Again South Valley Corvettes out did their self with prize for the raffle drawing and auction. There was lots of food and drinks all free to members.

A lot of us took pictures of the Corvettes there and pictures of our members at the drawing and dinner that evening in Morrow Bay at a seafood restaurant.

We got checked out of the Courtesy Inn at 1100 and went to breakfast. Ty had left to head back before breakfast. We really appreciate Ty for taking time off from his company and coming out to have fun and enjoy the run with the rest of the Corvettes.

James introduced himself as G&D's President to Bernie the VP of WSCC. Everyone seems to be aware of Guys and Dolls Corvette Club.

Remember our next BIG event will be the Benicia Mardi Gras Parade on 29 April in Benicia, CA. For the members riding in the parade will have to be there for 0900, those attending the parade starts at 1100. Hope to see a lot of coming out to enjoy and cheer us on.
Look for the San Simeon pictures to be posted soon.

Here is my report on the club meeting held at Pearl and Earnie Moore's home in Vallejo, CA on 25 March 2006.

First.
From myself and all of the members that attended this meeting we want to thank the Moore's' for all the hard work put in for preparing the delicious and plentiful food also for being a generous host in more ways than one.

Second.
The new E-Board members conducted this meeting very professionally and got matters of issues brought to the meeting answered. It certainly appears that the tenure of this board will improve the club's morale and purpose for being a strong body of members wanting to do more to advance the club in the right direction i.e. bus trips to raise money for the club, raffles , car shows and outings. Our club secretary Kathy Harris will relay more of this in her report on the minutes of this meeting.
Everyone exhibited interest in obtaining more dedicated members to reach our goal of 30 Corvettes in the coming months or years. It is each club members to recruit solid and Corvette enthuses to come aboard Guys and Dolls.

Third.
I want to apologize for being caught off guard and unprepared for thanking our club president James Williams and VP James Burns for all the thoughtfulness they put into selecting the gift the club president presented me with from all the club members.

For you all that was not at this meeting, it was a picture of me standing by my Corvette taken while at the meeting held at Williams' in San Jose. It is transposed on canvas and framed in a beautiful frame with a mounted brass plate saying " Deno Thornton Co-Founder Guys and Dolls Corvette Club"

I will hang it in my home proudly for all to see.
Again thank all of you for the unexpected recognition and God bless all of you.

Sincerely,

DenoT

Hi G&D
I have received two very important announcements in the mail that I want to pass on to you.
ONE: The date for Benicia Mardi Gras date for 2006 is on 29 April a Saturday. It is the same location as last year. We need to get a count of members who plan to "Ride With Pride" in the parade. At the meeting in March we need to talk about ordering the beads and other trinkets to throw to the crowd. These will have to be mail ordered and we will have a small window of time to act on. UNLESS you want me to select the throws and get prices and order them.

TWO: Received an announcement from NCCA (Northern California Corvette Association) regarding their 26th "A lengend on display" type 1 Corvette Car Show to be held on 7 May 2006 (a Sunday) in Alameda, CA.
There is a $27.00 entry fee to have your car on display and judged. (I'm looking to get another award for my Corvette). This will also be on the agenda for the meeting in March.
This the current update for the newsletter.
Thank you for looking in.

We had a great meeting on 28 January 2006 with a 97% turnout even with the inclement weather.

Members came quite a distance to attend and the club is grateful of this.

The new President James Williams selected a very nice spot for this meeting. I feel it was one of the best places yet. I'm sure members won't mind returning there again.

From all of us, thank you James for introducing Guys and Dolls to this place and all the work YOU put into doing this (i..e ordering and picking up the cake for the meeting). We are looking forward to your leadership as President.

The meeting went very well and matters were settled as needed.

At the beginning it was mentioned of the shortage of membership ( seven members short from last year) to the point that we lost the elected Secretary due to taking a "leave of absence" from the club and was in need of a replacement or the Treasurer (Pat) would have to take double duty as Treasurer and Secretary. In the mist of this dilemma Kathy Harris came to the rescue and took on the duties of club Recorder/ Secretary. We all want to thank Kathy for being a standup person and we know she will serve this position well because of her experience with these duties in other current organizations to which she belongs.

Also running parallel with the shortage of members is the shortage on club monies. As a club we will have to make cuts in certain areas (i.e. flowers being sent and smaller donations being gave out in lure of cutting operation funds).

Recruitment of new membership is on going and we do have information sheets made up for recruitment ( if you need some let me know and I'll get you some). As it was explained at the meeting we have to keep in mind we want members who will be dedicated to club meetings and some events. Not those who make hollow promises and don't follow through. This is important for events like the Vallejo Jazz Festival and the Benicia Mardi Gras Parade and Juneteenth for the club these are big events and the public is use to us and look forward to seen us there. Granted we are a small social club and it has never been the mission of having a very large club (30 cars at max) it is important that when we roll out we roll with as many Corvettes as possible through commitment.

I am/we are looking forward to a fun summer with our club members and our shinny Corvettes.
As a social club we need to focus on enjoyment for ourselves like we had at this last meeting relaxing and fun for all. (i.e summer cookouts at parks, runs to the wine country and other comfort runs)

Again it was brought up that perhaps the club should have meetings every three months. Members voiced their disapproval of this and want the club to continue it's bi-monthly meetings.

To conclude business for the E-Board of 2005 Deno Thornton presented Service Awards to Rainey Thornton Treasurer 2004/2005 and to Pat Hunter Secretary 2004/2005 for the outstanding work they did while holding those two positions.

Also prizes were awarded to the top three members that attended club meetings throughout 2005.
The prizes of pre-paid gas cards from Chevron of $5, $10 and $20.00.
The top three were the Boggs, The Williams and the Burns.
The winners drew the cards from my ball cap. Boggs $10.00, Burns $5.00 and Williams $20.00.
We hope to keep this going as incentive and do it at the end of 2006.

Name tags and membership cards were given to the new E-Board members. This indeed is the official turn over the club matters. Good luck to all!!

Again thank you all for attending this meeting in was very supportive to the oncoming new E-Board members.

Remember "Ride with Pride"

Hello Guys and Dolls,
Hope all had a safe and sane New Year's Eve brining in 2006.
With 2006 here it brings in new officers for the club. An e-mail was sent out to all the club members announcing the new officers. At our meeting coming up on 28 January 2006 we will install the new officers. James Williams (new club president) is locating a place to hold this meeting in the San Jose area (a welcomed change of location). The club funds is paying $20.00 per member for the meal. ANY thing over that amount will be paid by the member for their meal. Also at this meeting we hope to at lease do six months of the planning calender for 2006. So bring ideas to the meeting
Hope to see you there.

Sorry the weather or other reasons kept some you away from our 2005 Christmas Out Reach this year.

Those that came out to the Emmanuel Baptist Church in San Jose met with the family selected this year and presented them with the gift certificates from Guys and Dolls. James Burns gave the kids a little something extra of their own.

The Miorana family has relocated from New Orleans following the Katrina and Rita hurricanes to settle in San Jose for the time being. Nicholas and La Choy have six children..they are all well mannered and polite . The parents are warm and friendly and very appreciative of the gifts given to them by our club.

James and Joan Williams selected the best family group for Guys and Dolls to donate to.
Well done to the Williams.

Afterwards we went out to dinner at the Black Angus in Milpitas. It was an enjoyable outing for all. Reggie did a wonderful job in keeping the bill straight down to within a few cents. (Perhaps this can be his on taking at other outings)

Reggie I see also sent out an e-mail all in humor giving the rundown on the evening's events at Black Angus.

Sorry the pictures taken at this event is not the best quality, but they give you a look at whom the family is and who the members are that attended..

Well we weathered the storm and all made it home safe.

May all of you have a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year to come.

Looking forward to seeing you all next year.

The location for the meeting on 12 November 2005 will be held in Pittsburg, CA. at the Elk's Lodge.
The address and time was sent out in e-mail to all members, this way the member can map their way there.
At this meeting club officers for 2006 will be selected.
Member were asked to bring several boxes of dressing for Thanksgiving outreach.
Hope we have a full turn out.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
On 8 Oct 05 our club meeting was held in American Canyon at the home of Rainey and Deno, hosted with Pat, Pearl, Jacquie and Earnie.

There was lots of great food and drinks for all. Thank the members who contribute.

Thanks to the members who came out to the meeting. Also thanks to the member(s) who staid to help clean up after.

Agenda discussions were:
1. Delinquency of club dues.
2. Nomination forms for club officers.
3. Selection forms for donations.
4. Point system vs fines.
Decision made for Thanksgiving food outreach is to give boxes of dressing for Thanksgiving dinners. Members agree to bring box's of dressing to the next meeting and to be donated to selected Christian Help Center in Vallejo, Ca.

Discussed the need for members to come out to WSCC sanctioned car shows and other events. This shows interest and members enthusiasm in the club and the fun of winning plaques for the club at these events. WSCC keeps count of clubs who attend and what they win, at the end of the year WSCC gives out awards to those clubs who have come out the most.
The next meeting is schedule for 12 Nov 2005 in Tracy, CA at 3:00 PM. Place and address to come later.

Hope to see you all there.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
On 01 Oct 05 myself, Don and Tye went out to represent Guys and Dolls at the Diablo Valley Corvettes 3rd annual car show on Vallejo's Waterfront along with the city's Blues Festival.
There was way over a hundred Corvettes at this show. It was in two divisions, judging and park and show. Don and Tye did the park and show and Don won a plaque. He was number six out of the top eight cars in his class...WAY TO GO DON!!!
I was in the judging part of the car show...I won a plaque for my Corvette. I was number six out of nine in my class.
Don feels so good about winning this plaque until it has pumped him up to where he wants to do more in detailing his car to step up to the judging class.
Sorry some members who plan to come out for some reason or another did not make it.
This was the last car show put on by any club in WSCC for the season. So maybe by next season starting in April and ending in October more of our members will come out and represent Guys and Dolls.
WSCC has an event where they hand out awards to clubs who have attended the most car shows, who have won the most awards. If we work at this perhaps we can win one of these awards.
Our upcoming club meeting on 8 Oct. 05 as you all know is being held in American Canyon as e-mailed to members with directions and time.
This is our next to last meeting for the year. These last two meetings are important meetings. We will hand out forms for voting in new officers, selecting organizations to donate to and revisions to by-laws. So it is important that YOU keep close tabs on information on YOUR club's activities.
Hope to see you all soon.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Members (Deno, Don and Tye) that went to the VACA VALLEY Corvette Show in Fairfield had a great time seeing all the cars and talking to people in other Bay Area Corvette Clubs. As you may know by now I entered my car in the judging and brought home a plaque for G&DCC. I came in 17th out of 25. I have the gig sheet on what I need to improve on to get a better standing. My over all score was a 98.416. The discrepancies were minor, mostly cleaning up better. WSCC keeps a scoring of the clubs that take part in the car shows. Each club accumulate points through the year for attending and entering car shows for judging. At the end of the year clubs receive awards for their participation. I would like to encourage our club members to take part in these events. We pay into WSCC and this is one of our benefits. Your car doesn't have to be immaculate..just a Corvette...after participating in this judging I find it isn't bad to do.
One club even got a plaque for having the most cars there (they had eight).
Hope to see more of us just attending the shows to see the beautiful cars and meet other club members to let them know we exist.

G&DCC meeting held in San Jose and hosted by the Williams on 30 July 2005:
The meeting held in San Jose at the Williams' home was a wonderfully hosted and put together by the host, with lots of food and lots to drink of your favorite beverages.
The pool invite at the meeting topped of the evening with everyone enjoying the company of each other. The photo opportunity for members and their cars was a great idea presented by James. (sorry for the early departure of some because they missed out on this opportunity)

The meeting in itself was a productive one with key issues covered. We were glad to have this meeting a new couple interested in Guys and Dolls and may seek membership with the club. Pictures taken at this meeting was sent in e-mail to all members.
From this meeting we have another blacktop cruise planned for 10 Sept. for an overnight stay for those who want to stay overnight. A place and time to meet to make the run will be announced soon.

Our Juneteenth event on 18 June went extremely well in San Jose . Doris and Anthony Walker who came all the way from Unique Corvettes Of Atlanta, had a wonderful time doing their short visit. A big thanks goes out to our club member James Williams for all his hard work in finding places to dine and things to see; also for mapping directions for Doris and Anthony to return to the SF airport.

We hope Doris and Anthony will have interesting stories and pictures to bring back to their club members about us out here in the Bay Area. They were truly entertained by members of Guys and Dolls Corvette Club. They are our brother and sister along with the rest of their club members back in Atlanta. We welcome them and any other club members back anytime. We hope in the near future we will be able to join up as clubs for a visit.

Thanks to all the members who came out to display their Corvettes and to enjoy the entertainment at the Juneteenth.
Provided by Mr. Lavell Pennington the very good friend of co-founder and club member Reggie Boggs.

Without you we would not have had a successful event for our club. All nine Corvettes were looking great..keep up the good work on your pride and joy.

I'll be putting the wonderful pictures submitted by James Williams along with others taken by other members of the day's events and evening activities in the near future.

Our club meeting held on 21 May 2005 at the Gingerbread House in Oakland, CA hosted by Tricky and Dana was excellent.

I heard members saying the location was ideal with it's easy access to the freeway and to downtown.
The day was very pleasant for going out and about in our Corvettes. We drew lots of attention from onlookers. It thrilled the owner T. J to see all the cars there at her establishment.

The meeting when very well. We had a guest speaker Mr. Lavell Pennington from San Jose the producer and coordinator of the Juneteenth. He gave a presentation on the upcoming Juneteenth Cultural Festival, what to expect in terms of entertainment and vendors. He also discuss his plans for Guys and Dolls' main entrance before setting up our display.

We talked about our out of town guest from Unique Corvettes of Atlanta coming to visit our display for Juneteenth. We have members working on things to do for entertanment while they are here. We also ask that as many members as possible come out to meet and greet them.
Mr. Pennington is looking into getting hotel rooms for those that need to stay over in San Jose.
The following was sent out to all the members in e-mail:

Hello Guys and Dolls,

I want to thank each and everyone of you for taking time to come out to your club meeting.
It was wonderful to see each of you, all in good health and spirits.

A special thanks to Mr. Pennington for coming out and giving us the presentation on the upcoming Juneteenth Cultural Festival of which we are taking part in on 18 June 2005 by displaying some of the members Corvettes. All of the comments that Mr. Pennington has for the reason he wants G&DCC to attend this event is what we are about to the youngsters and the public.

Tricky and Dana hosted and picked a wonderful spot to hold our club meeting. The owners went out of their way to accommodate our club in a private area.

I think it is only fair to draft a "letter of appreciation" for their wonderful food, excellent treatment and service gave to us; from the special parking arrangement to the curbside farewell.

Please feel free to give input for the "appreciation letter".

There will be follow up e-mails on the issues we discussed and plans of entertainment for our Unique Corvettes of Atlanta visitors in June for the Juneteenth Cultural Festival

Thank you all for your support through the meeting and your suggestions on certain issue to make our club a better one.

Remember to "RIDE WITH PRIDE"
Sincerely,
Deno Thornton

Hi Guys and Dolls,
I'm happy to say we had a wonderful turn out for our first Benicia Gumbo Mardi Gras Parade.
In the nine block parade route we threw out 1480 beads to an excited crowd of spectators.

Thanks for the large turnout at the Benicia Mardi Gras Parade Saturday. We had eight Corvettes and the club support truck. (Myself, Hosea and Kim, Reggie and Kay, Dana and Tricky, Don and Jacquie, Claudell and Mary,
James and Al, James, Carla, Pancho, Felix, Lita and Vickie.)Those of you that did not attend YOU missed out on some BIG fun. We were the hit of the parade.
As predicted, we ran out of "throws" (beads) at about two blocks before the end of the parade route. We attended the festivities after the parade and all left before 3:00 PM as it still went on. It was a long day for those who drove a long way to get there. I want to thank you for coming out and supporting YOUR club. Hopefully we will have more members to ride in the parade next year.
So now we talking about getting more beads and possibly other kinds of throws for the parade after looking at the clubs funding and budgeting the money for this event.

(Myself, Jacquie, Ida & Felix's sister, Don and Allen with wife attended the Over Flowing Cup Black and White Ball)

By the way for us that attended the Over Flowing Cup's Black and White Ball, It was done in class and we arrived in class. Guys and Dolls were given recognition by Rev/Dr. Dyson as the first organization to adopt them and give support to them. Don't know if it was intended or specially written in their organization's song that was sang by the organizations talented singing group, but Guys and Dolls were mentioned in it's lyrics. Hopefully next year it will be on a different day then Benicia's Mardi Gras so more of us can attend this event.
AGAIN and BIG thanks goes out to you that made the ride in this years parade.

Sincerely,
Deno

Hi Guys and Dolls,
Some of us made our 2nd "Black Top Cruise" down to San Simeon, CA with the South Valley Corvettes 25th San Simeon Tour. Our "run shirts" were given positive comments by other clubs. A couple from Pittsburgh, CA was so impressed they have an interest in us and may come out to our next meeting in May.

It was GREAT!! for you that did not go, you missed out on a lot of fun, food, Hearst Castle tour and most of all being together on this run with 225 Corvettes from all over Cali and one came down from Oregon. It was such a wonderful event until three of us have reserved a room for next year at the Courtesy Inn. (One night charge is $87.15 with tax.)
This is where South Valley Corvettes holds the event. Other clubs arrive earlier than the main group and setup their club banner and reserve chairs for it's members (it is packed when everyone arrives)

Let me tell you about the event. For starters when you register with SVC you receive a goody bag with nice useable things. (This was given to each person before leaving Gilroy)
We left Gilroy in a well orchestrated caravan.(Imagine 225 Corvettes going down highway 101...what a sight . There were a few new C6s..all looking good (they grow on you after awhile)

We made one pit stop at a rest area to use the restrooms and stretch our legs. ( This was about 30 minutes from San Simeon)
We arrived in San Simeon, checked into our motel, then went over to Courtesy Inn where the event was being held...as advertised; there was lots of food and plenty to drink. Raffle tickets were sold. Upon completion of the sale of raffle tickets; this three plus hour of raffles started. James W. won 2 or 3 items of good use. Again, all items was useable...too much to name...you had to be there.

On Sunday we got up and went to breakfast...after we ate off to the Hearst Castle tour. I recommend anyone to do this at lease once. From there we went down Highway 1 the scenic rout to Monterey. We stopped and eat on the wharf at a restaurant over looking the ocean. Hosea was fascinated by the sea otters and all of us by a school of porpoise along with a kayaker (not sure of what it was at first) seen way off in the distance slowly making his way to the shoreline.

Very sorry some of you missed our 2nd Black Top Cruise. Myself, Hosea and James W. took lots of picture and I will be setting them up soon on our web site and sending out to members as a photo album.

We bonded on this run, everyone got that feeling of family being together, just as we intend OUR club to be. We missed the rest of you.

A BIG thanks to these members and friends who made it all happen.

Newsletter update: 20 March 2005
Hello Guys and Dolls,
Thanks to all of you who came out to the meeting hosted by Kim and Hosea in their lovely new house. The house, atmosphere and the Hopkins, were outstanding (not to mention the food prepared by Kim).

You the members showed dedication and commitment to your membership in our club by coming great distances on such a day of uncertain weather. Kim, Hosea and the E-Board appreciate this dedication of you the members.

This meeting for the first time showed the greatness of it's members as individuals, everyone had some input to offer in what the club needs to make it a better club for all. Myself and the rest of the E-Board would like to thank you.
Again a BIG thanks to Kim and Hosea for hosting the meeting on 19 March 2005 and most of all thank each of you for attending and your safe return home.

The members that will be making the run to San Simeon has the information on the time of departure from Gilroy and the motel information to make their reservations by the deadline of 23 March 2005. Lets have a safe run with the hosting club "South Valley Corvettes Club" and most of all represent Guys and Dolls and have LOTS OF FUN on this overnight run, our clubs first "Black Top Cruise".

The next meeting date has been settled by the hosting club members. (Tricky and Dana)
The meeting will be held on 21 May 2005 in Oakland at The Ginger Bread House. The time will be announced later. Tricky will get the menu and snail mail it out to members in time to pre-order our meals. So please check this date and your schedules for this upcoming meeting in May. As always we like to have a good turn out for those hosting a meeting.

Guys and Dolls voting rights in WSCC has been reinstated after the matter was cleared up about our club membership payment into WSCC.
On page 3 you will see the question asked about non-WSCC membership that "ride along" with a club. I won't go into detail in this newsletter. If you received a WSCC newsletter you can look it up and get the understanding behind the answer from WSCC's president.

Guys and Dolls; please remember our club is in a serious arena when involved in club activities. We may never have to use the services of WSCC insurance, but as with all insurance; it is a small price to pay when you need the coverage.
There is no wiggle room under our by-laws concerning non-membership in WSCC; this is why our club members must renew their membership in WSCC between 1 November-31 December. In the future there will be no " member's anniversary date" renewal. All G&DCC members must join no later than 31 January each year.( a $6.00 late fee is charged between 31 December and 31 January..raising the cost from $35.00 to $41.00)

Today 12 Feb 05 three of us went to lunch at Bobby's Cajun BBQ in Richmond. The food was great! The orders were large enough to have left overs to take home.
Claudell said the food was worth the ride from SF. It was a shorter ride for myself and Don. The outdoor pictures taken on today's run are on the Events 2005 page.
We told Bobby, that next time we would bring out more Corvettes and members, his reply was "bring em on".
It is conveniently located off the East or West 80 freeway at the Hilltop Dr. exit. The area is nice and has enough parking to accommodate us.
So next time we hope to see more of the Guys and Dolls make this comfort run doing this summer when the weather is nice, some of the Dolls may want to run over to the Hilltop Shopping Mall.

Latest on WSCC Meeting held in Gilroy on 02/05/05
Thanks to the Guys and Dolls who went to the WSCC meeting in Gilroy on Saturday 5 Feb 2005.
Thanks to Jacquie for standing in for Pat as secretary . With Jacquie’s innovation of using a tape recorder for the meetings coverage, things should be very accurate .

It was an interesting and informative meeting. Our members should attend one to see what goes on there and to see where your membership dues go to.
Along those lines. A club is allowed to miss two meetings throughout the year, then they will lose their voting rights. So myself or the vice president along with other members will be sure to attend these meetings.
The other clubs in WSCC has all sort of activities going on through out 2005. South Valley Corvettes are putting on their run to San Simeon for 9th and 10th of April. It will be an over nighter with a hotel stay.
Pat has called and e-mail to see what members from our club want to go. South Valley Corvettes will leave Gilroy at 7:00 AM on the morning of the 9th. This means those of us who live outside the Gilroy area will have to leave our locations early to meet with the 190+ Corvettes making the run. This has to be a sight to see. At a half way point they will stop to eat and comfort stop.
As I mentioned a lot of good information came out at this meeting.
For 0ne..when we make a “comfort run” we no longer have to contact WSCC letting them know we planned a run, we are covered automatically.
We are on the right track with our “release of liability forms” this is requested by WSCC for those who ride with us and are not a member of WSCC.
We are also automatically covered when we put our Corvettes on “display” (like the Vallejo Jazz Festival, the Benicia Mardi Gras parade) these identification words are very important when a club hold these events. It release them from paying extra premium charges for certain events.
Our club is best described as a “social club” not holding events for racing, car shows or auto cross.
All we do is gather for socializing and comfort runs. (eating and shopping)
So as I mentioned it was a very good meeting. Guys and Dolls was warmly welcomed. We were approached by members of other clubs interested in what we do, how many members and where we are from.
There will be more to come on this subject in our agenda at our next meeting.
Please check out new pictures from this run:
There are a few new pictures under LINKS Events of 2005..check out Hosea’s NEW C6...a beautiful Corvette…

Jan 29, 2005 Meeting (old news)

We had a 98% turn out for the First Annual Guys and Dolls Corvette Club meeting.

Our family club member Claudell even came out after having his surgery a month ago. Man what dedication to the club and his extended family. Thanks from all of us Claudell
;-)
Also would like to thank Gloria and Robert for coming up from Fresno, Ca. That also is dedication to the club.
The meeting was held at the club's landmark for a startup. Our very first meeting was held 17 January 2004. The rest is history.

Visit our LINKS and click on "Events of 2004" and see how much the club did as a whole last year.

At present we have fifteen Corvettes onboard, putting us at our half way mark of the allotted number of thirty.

While visiting our LINK area click on "Events of 2005" and you will see the meeting held on 29 January 2005. We had a photo ops. Taking pictures of members and their Corvettes with a breath taking backdrop of boats at the Vallejo Marina.

This was the best meeting so far. Members arrived ahead of the time asked. This was a big plus. We had the pictures taken starting at 12:30 PM and was headed for the Front Room restaurant at 1:45 PM for our 2:00 PM reservation.
We held our meeting which included presenting a donation to Rev/Dr. Carolyn Dyson for The Over Flowing Cup Foundation (this is for women of color with breast cancer). We installed the new officers and appointees for 2005.We recongnized all the birthday people in the club. We had a lovely cake for the club's anniversary and cup cakes for the birthday people. Thanks to Pat and Rainey for arranging to get the cakes.(CORRECTION IT WAS PAT THAT ORDERED AND PICKED UP THE CAKES!!) We had dinner and was out the door headed homeward by 4:15 PM.

This means we were 15 minutes ahead of time allotted at the Front Room.
So to ALL the Guys and Dolls WELL DONE!!

We will all meet on 19 March in Stockton at the home of Kim and Hosea. Time and other information will be come your way soon.

Again as always very nice to see everyone and to "Ride With Pride" and to do what we do as as Small club doing Big things for Little people (the children)

Maintenance tip:
C-5 OWNERS BEWARE OF LEAKING BATTERY! UNKNOWN TO SOME OF YOU< C-5s HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE DELCO FACTORY INSTALLED BATTERIES LEAKING FROM THE POSITIVE POST> THIS IS CAUSED BY VIBERATION, IF UNDETECTED IT CAN LEAK ON THE COMPUTER AND ELECTRICAL HORNESS CAUSING DAMAGE TO ELECTRICAL SYSTEM!!. (Not sure if this is covered under warranties.) A sure cure for this problem is to replace the current battery with an OPTIMUM RED TOP BATTERY..Pep Boys carries them for sure. Price is around $120.00. Myself and Hosea has had this problem. An early sign is leakage under the passenger side behind wheel on the ground.
After removing the Delco battery, wash area down with baking soda and water solution, then spray area with WD 40 to stop futher corrosion.

Need Tires?
Go to the LINKS "TIRES" and open to Tire Rack...this is the BEST place to order tires for your Corvette.Once there all you have to do is inout your Corvette by year and they will show what is recommended for your Corvette or you can go to an alternate brand and research the performance rating. You can have them delivered to your door or to a recommended installer near you.
ALSO:
If you change your own C5 oil at home; here is a tip.
* After undoing the drain plug, jack up the rear so that it is higher than the front. This will allow oil in the rear of the oil pan to drain out completely.
